About the Gardeners

Gardening is a great metaphor for life.  It’s exciting to watch life happen and heartbreaking when things don’t work out like you planned.  San Diego is famous for it’s mild climate and it’s uncertain which fruits and veggies will flourish and how to grow them.

This is the journey of one backyard garden, tended by amateurs with big dreams of growing their own food and living a sustainable lifestyle.  May it inspire you to go out and grow some food!

Jessica

Backyard gardening has always excited her.  Her and her fiance, Ben, rent housing in San Diego and move every few years so have not been able to establish mature gardens.  Their current garden is actually the second backyard garden they have tended as they work to save up money to buy their own home to grow food in a sustainable, organic way.

Ben

Gardening is a small-scale version of his long-term goal of living in a way that will allow him to grow enough food to support his family – organically.  Ben helps maintain the garden and uses the fresh grown edibles in his daily cooking.
